New competitors routinely spend money on the wrong things before they spend it on the things that keep them competing.

Footwear comes first. The landing is the most physically punishing moment in the event and the wrong boot is the fastest route to an ankle injury.

A saddle that fits both you and the horse is the second priority, and it is worth borrowing before buying.

Everything else can wait until you know what your run looks like.
